The Week - Cool Casablanca
October 27, 2012

Casablanca used to be Morocco’s “urban black sheep” -- a French colonial creation that lacked the “must-see: historic attractions for which Marrakech and Fez are famed. But the country’s economic capital has lately become a “dynamo destination”, says Michelle Jana Chan in Tatler, thanks to an impressive range of regeneration projects, such as a “sensational” new theatre by the “homegrown” architect, Christian de Portzamparc; the “dazzling” new Marina; and a new Norman Foster-designed hotel and shopping complex, Anfa Place. There is much else to enjoy in the city. Be sure to visit its “glamorous” beach clubs; shop in the Quartier Habous, a “Portobello-style souk”; and go for cocktails at Le Cabestan, a “funky” bar beside the ocean.
